Schema Coverage Report 2026: What % of the Fortune 500 Uses Each Schema Type
In July 2026 we crawled 1,000 URLs (500 homepages + 500 top inner pages) across every Fortune 500 company and parsed all JSON-LD blocks. Organization schema is now near-universal (94.2%), but structured data critical for AI Overviews and Rich Results — FAQPage (23.4%), HowTo (7.2%), Speakable (2.1%) — remains rare. Only 61% of Fortune 500 sites declare a canonical WebSite entity with SearchAction.
Key findings
- 1
Organization schema is table stakes
94.2% of Fortune 500 sites ship Organization schema. The 5.8% that don't are mostly legacy industrials with static HTML sites.
- 2
FAQPage adoption is the biggest quick win
Only 23.4% of Fortune 500 sites use FAQPage schema — despite it being the #1 schema type cited by Google AI Overviews in our State of AI Search study.
- 3
Speakable + Article + Author is the AI-Overview stack
Sites shipping all three types were cited 3.1× more often in AIOs (cross-referenced with our AI Search study sample).
- 4
E-commerce nails Product but misses Review
82% of retail Fortune 500s ship Product schema; only 34% also ship Review or AggregateRating on the same page.
- 5
Only 61% ship WebSite with SearchAction
The one-line WebSite + SearchAction block that enables sitelinks search box is missing from 39% of Fortune 500 sites.

Methodology
Sample: 500 Fortune 500 companies × 2 URLs = 1,000 pages. Published 2026-07-21.
- Company list: Fortune 500 (2026 US edition).
- URL selection: canonical www homepage + the highest-Semrush-organic-traffic inner page in the same domain.
- Rendering: headless Chrome (playwright) with a 5s network-idle wait to capture client-side JSON-LD.
- Parsing: extracted every <script type="application/ld+json"> block, normalized single vs @graph shapes, and counted distinct @type values per page.
- A schema type is credited to a company if it appears on either sampled URL.
- Invalid JSON blocks (parse error) were excluded, but syntactically valid but schema-invalid blocks were included in the raw CSV for downstream analysis.

FAQ
Why is FAQPage adoption so low?
FAQPage is easy to add but requires editorial ownership per page, and Google briefly narrowed FAQ Rich Result eligibility in 2023. The rich result is back for authoritative sites in 2026 and AI Overviews cite it heavily.
Do you track Speakable eligibility?
Yes — we flag it whenever the Speakable @type appears anywhere in the page's JSON-LD graph, regardless of the parent @type.
Can I filter by industry?
The raw CSV includes each company's Fortune sector, ticker, and revenue rank so you can pivot however you want.
